As we gear up for the new year each and every one of us can look back to the year that just past and point out what we are thankful for. And how many things are your list? Five? Twelve? Thirty? Is that all? There were 365 days last year, there's three hundred sixty-five things already! I hope I have more than that to be thankful for at the end of this year!
So what are the gifts in today? Today is a gift. I woke up in a safe place, among friends, and proceeded to breathe air for the hours that followed. The temperature is a gift! It's the third day in a row that it has been 18 degrees out. After the unrelenting heat of our days here so far, this “cool” weather has been quite the treat. Also, a few weeks back I got a Christmas delivery from my family. This may seem trite, but I am so thankful for the peppermint chapstick I got! It reminds me of home and the “smells of Christmas” that I took a hiatus from this year. What else?
1. Today
2. Cool temperature
3. Easy access to all the ingredients needed to make pancakes
4. Pancakes!
5. Spontaneous and uncontrollable laughter.
6. A comfy chair and a good book.
7. Peppermint chapstick
8. Butterflies on the bushes
This blog and is year-long experiment inspired by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Ann Voskamp who discovered the secret to living life at its fullest. The secret? Thankfulness. Time slows and joy increases as we stop to acknowledge the numerous gifts we have and the One that gave them. Ultimately, this blog is inspired by God. I want to intentionally look for God's gifts this year, the inklings, the hints of His grace that are evident in our daily lives. Want to journey with me?
"When I realize that it is not God who is in my debt but I who am in His great debt, then doesn't all become gift?
For He might not have." -Ann Voskamp
